College Foundation

The college was started as an initiative by the Society of Merchant Venturers in the 1500s. The college truly came into existence in 1996, when Brunel College merged with South Bristol College. Further down the line it also merged with Soundwell College and smaller establishments such as the College of Care and Early Years Education.It has come a long way since then. In 2013, it faced some difficulties but overcame them quickly, showing the strength of its foundation. By 2017, it was given a Silver Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) award. Acknowledging that the quality of teaching and the outcomes they achieve at higher education level are great.

As of 2023, City of Bristol has been awarded the ‘Good’ rating from Ofsted due to its ability to meet local and regional skills. It also considers student satisfaction, retention rates, and employment outcomes.
