T&C ApplyThe University of Bristol is a prestigious institution with a centuries-long history. It is part of the Russell Group and is a red brick research university in Bristol. Along with that, it is also a part of the Coimbra Group and the Worldwide Universities Network. The university has an annual income of approximately £900 million, of which around £200 million was from research grants and contracts.

The University was initially founded as the engineering department of the Merchant Venturers' Technical College. This was in the 16th century, as time passed it underwent a lot of changes. It even became Bristol Medical School (in 1833) and University College Bristol (in 1876). The first batch of University College consisted of only 99 students.
It gained the royal charter in May 1909, with 288 undergraduates and 400 other students entering the university in the same year. It was the first institutions of its kind to allow the admission of women on the same basis as men. However, women were forbidden to take examinations in medicine until 1906.
Students can choose from over 200 undergraduate courses in the university. It is divided into six academic faculties and multiple schools as well as departments. Most of the classes are held in the Tyndalls Park area of Bristol.University also has the Erasmus Charter, which means that it can send Erasmus students to partner institutions of Europe. Every year, the university sends more than 500 students to different educational institutions across Europe. Individuals coming to Bristol as part of a student exchange programme do not pay any tuition fees to the University of Bristol.
The University of Bristol's alumni and faculty include 13 Nobel laureates. Most recently, the Research Excellence Framework has ranked the university number 5 in terms of research quality in the whole UK. The average number of undergraduate applicants in sciences faculty is 6.4 while that for medicine and dentistry is 13.1.In the last year, Bristol University holds the 4th place as the most targeted university by the UK's top 100 employers. It was also ranked 7th in the UK for the number of graduates who joined the professional market.
