It became the first technological university in the United Kingdom. The enrollment rate falls somewhere around 25,000 students, making it Scotland’s third-largest university. In 1964 the university only had 4,000 full-time students and by 2003 the number had climbed up to 20,000. Right at the time when the University of Strathclyde celebrated its 100th anniversary of the laying of the original Royal College building.John Anderson left the majority of his estate to create the University of Strathclyde. This was the second university in Glasgow which would focus on specializing in practical subjects.
Strathclyde University was awarded University of the Year by Times Higher Education in 2012 and in 2019. It is the first university to receive this award twice. The annual income of the university sits somewhere around £500 million of which £100 million is from research grants and contracts. The expenditure is somewhere around £400 million.
In the session of 2019/20, the university had a total of 24,330 full-time students. Out of this, 16,115 were undergraduates and 8,215 postgraduates. Around 35,000 people take part in professional programmes and other continuing education programmes. Originally the university operated from the Jordan Hill campus. After 2012, the university relocated to a new building in the John Anderson Campus.About 16% of the students at the university are from overseas. The university also has an alumni population of over 100,000 and is growing.
